Details

The Caney Loop is a popular trail located in the Daniel Boone National Forest by Cave Run Lake. It is a good trail for beginners (around 1.5 to 2 hours) but also a fun trail for experienced riders (try to do it in 50 minutes). The trail is 6.2 miles in length and will total around 10 miles if you do the loop and take the Sheltowee Trace section back to the trailhead. It has a little of everything including smooth fast sections, sand, rocks, roots, logs, plenty of creek crossings, a few tricky climbs and some great scenery. Horse riders also frequent the trail but are usually friendly. Just make them aware of your presence and if they let you pass its always good to talk to them, it helps keep the horses calm. They can get a little weird sometimes when they see that crazy horse you're riding.

Directions

Take I-64 to exit 133 and head south on KY 801 towards the lake. Take a right on KY 826 which will take you past the Corps of Engineers Office. After you go over the damn you need to take a left into the Stoney Cove Recreation Area. There is plenty of parking but I would suggest parking near the back by the gravel road. The trailhead is just up the hill on the left of the gravel road. The trailhead on the right is the Sheltowee Trace Trail but is where you will come out if you ride the loop.
