Trail Report RSS Feed

Now we are getting close to a very usable stream of information. Just post your trail reports on a regular basis and everyone can now access them via there favorite RSS reader by going to :

I'm tweaking the entries a bit so it shows up nicely in all readers. I hope to have a desktop widget soon that will allow quick posting of reports without the need to bring up the whole site.

If you aren't sure what all this talk is about then just ask and I'll be glad to explain RSS feeds, readers and how you can benefit from using them!

For an over the top

For an over the top explanation of RSS check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(file_format)

Basically its a file (automated or static) that you retrieve from a site using and RSS Reader. Most new browsers have built in readers as well as some email applications and there are many different widgets etc. that can also show them.

The main benefit is you don't have to visit a site and/or deal with digging/searching for something on a site. You can just subscribe to the RSS feed and that info is show to you in your RSS Reader in a simple to read format. Some sites put the full content in their feed while others just give you bits of it to entice you to visit the site to get the rest.

On its own its probably not that useful but if you subscribe to other RSS feeds then adding this on will give you the benefit of seeing trail conditions along with your other news bits.

One thing I would suggest is

One thing I would suggest is to have some way to put the trail name in your subject. If I look at the rss pull down it just shows "almost rained out 9/9" If it were for only one trail that would work, but if you have several trails it really would not be a benefit because you would have to open every post to see where it was.

Your exactly right. I just

Your exactly right. I just need to hack the feed to use the trail name for the title. That and a few other changes will hopefully make this very useful next spring/summer.
